I am relieved and delighted to say that I passed my Comprehensive Exams and am moving into writing my dissertation proposal. I'm building a dissertation project that makes space for critical pedagogies, critical theories, and messy practice/process, and filmmaking will (must) be part of this. I made a short ethnographic documentary about Japanese American and American Japanese identity as an exploration of how to bring Critical Educational Ethnography and creative documentary filmmaking into conversation, and I'm really excited about how the process lived and breathed.

It's important to me that my research is accessible to the communities I serve and am part of, well beyond the paywalls and gatekeeper language of academia. So, I've submitted this film to festivals and will eventually publish it for public access. I'm delighted to say that the film has been selected for two festivals that I'm really excited to be in community with: The Asian American Showcase in Chicago and Feminist Border Arts at NMSU. I couldn't be more excited to be included in these festivals and their programming. They are the cool kids I want to be when I grow up.

Stay tuned.
